Abstract


Background: SLE is an autoimmune disease characterized by immune dysregulati< Tesulting in the production of circulating immune complexes which produce the patholog features of the disease. The ophthalmic manifestations of systemic lupus erythematos1 are protean. They ranged from lesions of the eyelid and secondary Sjogren 's syndrome . sight-threatening disorders such as retinal vascular disease and neuro-ophthalm involvement.
Method: We conducted a prospective, randomized study to demonstrate the retinal ar neuro-ophthalmic affection in patients with SUi with special emphasis on showing tb various fluorescein angiograms.
Results: Fifty patients (99 eyes) with Systemic lupus erythematosus were chosen in this
study. All our patients met •at least four of the ACR • (American College of
Rheumatology) criteria for the diagnosis of Systeinic lupus erythematosus (Tan, 1982).
*Angiographic findings were detected in 16 of our study patients (24 eyes) comprising
both active and inactive. patients (32%).
