Abstract


Intellectual disability (ID), once called mental retardation, is a condition diagnosed before age 18 that includes below-average general intellectual function, and a lack of the skills necessary for daily living(Wilmshurst& Brue 2010).
Accidents are the largest single cause of death after the age of one year and are one of the most serious health problems facing the world today. They are the most common cause of hospital admission and can result in lifelong disability (Osofsky & Lieberman 2011).
Because children spend a significant proportion of their day in school, pediatric emergencies such as the exacerbation of medical conditions, behavioral crises, and accidental/intentional injuries are likely to occur. All children are at risk for injury because of their normal curiosity, impulsiveness and desire to master new skills and children imitate adult behavior from an early age (Osofsky & Lieberman 2011).
