Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities as Perceived by Health Care Providers and Patients

Abstract


A comparative cross-sectional analytic design were
utilized and it was conducted at the Nasser Institute Hospital
&AL-Demerdash Hospital. It involved 100 staff nurses, 120
physicians and 220 patients. Data were collected using selfadministered
questionnaire sheets.
This study revealed the following results:
- The comparison of total perception of patient rights
between physicians in the two hospitals. It demonstrates
that physicians' percentages in Nasser institute were mostly
lower than physicians' percentages in Al-Demerdash. These
differences were statistically significant in three of the
sixteen domains of rights and responsibility. These were
related to decision making, refusing treatment and
responding to needs. Very high percentages of perception
of patient responsibilities among physicians' in Nasser
institute and physicians' in Al-Demerdash, for all items
(100%).
