Ashraf Hamed Ibrahim Mahmood;

Abstract

In the early part of the century. patients with vulvar malignancies commonly presented wtth advanced disease. and surgical techniques were poorly developed. But even in our day. about SOCk· of these patients have tumors in stage II, III or IV. Control of both the primary tumor and the regional lymph nodes is difficult to achieve. By introducing new reconstructive techniques in addition to radical surgery, both survival rates and the cosmetic and functional healing results could be markedly improved. On the other hand. with a more common awareness of the disease and with extended screening programs, about 50% of these patients arc diagnosed with stage I lesions. Tailoring the treatment to the extent of the malignancy has become a popular concept. and in the last decade. similar interests have evolved regarding vulvar cancer in both the young and the elderly (Kilapestien, 1990).

This research g1ves a summary of common or special problems related to vulvar malignancies. Beginning with modem histopathology of premalignant and malignant lesions, the role of human papillornaviruses in the etiology of these tumors and early clinical diagnosis is discussed.

Aim of the work: Full study of the clinicopathological data, diagnosis and management of 69 patients presented to N.C.I Cairo .Egypt between 1995 to 2002, companng these data with other international researches.
