CLINICO-BIOLOGICAL FEATURES OF FEMALE BREAST CANCER

Abstract


This trial is based on the retrospective analysis of the data of 548 female breast cancer patients who presented to NEMROCK in the period of 1997-1999, with analysis of outcome in relation to known prognostic factors for a special subgroup of 147 patients who pr sented to NEMROCK in 1997. All patients were thoroughly examined and investigated by routine laboratory tests, chest -x"ray, abdominal ultrasound, and bone scan. The median follow-up was 24 months for the 14 7 patients in the follow-up group. After analyzing the data we found the following .characteristics in the Egyptian female breast cancer patient:


Age: The average age of incidence is 47.8 ± 10.4 years, with most of the patients

( 199/548) aging between 40 -< 50.



Menopause: Most patients were premenopausal (54%), and only 28% were postmenopausal, and 18% were perimenopausal


Presenting symptom: was usually a breast lump in the upper outer quadrant of the breast.


Past history: Most cases were lactating mothers, with no family history of the disease, and no or minimal use of hormonal contraceptives.


Pathology: 90% of the patients were diagnosed with IDC, while ILC patients were

6%.
