BIOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON SOME BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS FROM FRUIT BY-PRODUCTS
HABIBA ABD EL-AZIZ AHMED;
Abstract
This investigation aimed to isolate, identify and biological evaluate of the biological activity constituents of kiwi and banana peels, as well as banana and olive leaves.
The obtained results can be summarized as follows:
1. Proximate analysis
Kiwi and banana peels, banana leaves and olive leaves, were analyzed for moisture, ash, crude protein, crude lipid and total carbohydrate. The moisture content of raw materials was significantly different and showed very wide range being 43.06% for olive leaves and reached to 88.10% for banana peel extract and 85.27% for kiwi peel extract. Also, raw material displayed intermediate value being 63.57% for banana leaves. Remarkable high crude protein content was noticed for all tested samples. The highest crude protein content was found in banana leaves (14.98%). Also, high total lipid content was observed for all samples (ranged from 10.37 to 15.04) except kiwi
