RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF CLINICOEPIDEMIOLOGICAL FEATURES IN PATIENTS WITH HORMONAL RESISTANT PROSTATE CANCER

Yehia Ibrahim MohamedSalaheldin;

Abstract

Hormonal-resistant prostate cancer presents a spectrum of disease ranging from rising psa levels in the absence of metastases or symptoms and despite androgen-deprivation therapy, to metastases and significant debilitation from cancer symptoms. Castrate-resistant prostate cancer is usually suspected in patients with new symptoms on androgen deprivation therapy, with a rising psa, or with new evidence of disease on bone scans or computed tomography scans (Hotte S J et al, 2010).
Prognostic factors play an important part in guiding choosing among different treatment options, stratifying for groups of comparable risks while designing new studies, interpreting the literature, and understanding the biologic nature of prostate cancer. A failure to appreciate the role of prognostic factors may contribute to the design of inefficient studies, the wrong interpretation of results, the development of an inconsistent literature, misunderstanding the effects of therapy (George Rodrigues et al,2012).
The current studyretrospectively analyzed the various clinico-epidemiological features for patients with hormonal resistant prostate cancer and to draw associations in terms of overall survival showing the significant effect Performance Status and tumor grade has in terms of overall survival of this study group.
