DETECTION OF POLLUTION WITH PI-IENOLS INDRINIQNG WATERANDWASTEWATER

Abstract


Samples of Nile water and drinking water of Tebeen water treatment plant were analyzed using GC, with flame ionization detector to detect the eleven phenols of EPA 604 method. In addition to wastewater from different stages of Helwan wastewater treatment plant during May 98 to April 99. Also industrial wastewater of coke, paper, drugs, textile factories and fuel stations were analyzed to detect the quantities of pollution of phenols. The results indicated that there was no pollution with phenols in Nile water or drinking water in the level of microgram/ liter. There were some phenols found in the effluent of Helwan wastewater treatment plant in June 98, July 98, August 98, September 98, and January 99. The results showed that the quantity of pollution with phenols which discharged from industrial wastewater were in the following order, fuel stations >Coke factory> Drugs factory> Textile factory> paper factory.
