Aortic Regurgitation in case of Ventricular Septal Defect

Basma Ali Maher Mutawally;

Abstract

The present work aimed to demonstrate the presence of aortic valve prolapse and aortic valve regurge as a complication of ventricular septal defect (VSD) using Qp/Qs, Rp!Rs and VSD/AO ratio. And promote diagnosis and early management will be the goal for the prevention of aortic regurge (AR) that will develop in cases with untreatable VSD and study the effect of early surgical correction.

The role of electrocardiogram, chest radiograph, echocardiogram and cardiac catheter in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease were discussed.

The result of 15 cases with complicated VSD (VSD with aortic valve prolapse AVP and 15 cases with VSD only (non-complicated by AVP) were presented.

In comparison between cases with VSD+AVP (Group I) and cases with VSD only (Group II) it was found that there is significant difference in VSD/AO ratio related to the size of VSD and the severity ofthe prolapse, even the presence or absence of the prolapse.

In our data Qp/Qs ratio was showing highly significance difference between Group I (VSD+AVP) 1.65±0.51 and Group 11 (VSD without AVP) 1.95_±0.77 (P < 0.05).

As regard Rp/Rs ratio it was found that mean Rp/Rs ratio in (Group I) VSD:t-AVP 17.6±4.09 with a high significant difference in relation to the VSD control group (Group II) 42.33±27.48 (P < 0.001) which highly significance.
