ASSESSMENT OF WOMEN SATISFACTION WITH CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS USAGE IN A PRIMARY HEALTH CARE CENTER (PHC) IN EL-OBOUR CITY

Abstract


It is found by EDHS that 80% of married women interviewed in EDHS were satisfied from contraception. With regard to the reasons for stopping use, users were more likely to discontinue during the first year of use because they experienced side effects, dissatisfaction with the method or had health concerns. Health care providers need to counsel patients about each contraceptive option to allow them to select the best contraceptive method. Because patient provider discussions about contraceptive options are the strongest indicator of selection, adherence, and satisfaction with a method.
Aim of work:
1- Measure women satisfaction of contraceptive methods they are using.
2- Identify causes of dissatisfaction of contraceptive methods they are using.
Methods:
Type of study: a cross sectional study.
Study setting: Family medicine clinics in family medicine center in El-Obour city.
Time: Over 3 months from the start of work.
Population:
Females visiting the two family medicine clinics of family medicine center in El-Obour city to receive any health service.
Inclusion criteria: All married women aged (15 – 49) years and was using contraceptive method for at least six months.
Sampling:
The collection of data was completed in three months, the total number of attendance was expected to be 1250 in these three months so every fifth case was selected from the attendance (1250/250), the first case was selected by simple randome sample (case number three was the starting case).
Sample size:
A sample of 250 patients was estimated at 95% CI, using Epi – Info 2002 taking a prevalence of satisfaction with contraceptive method used 80% (EDHS 2008) with standard deviation 5%.
Tools:
Interview administered questionnaire to married women including:
1- Demgraphic data such as:(name, age, education level, occupation, number of children, the age of youngest, education and job of husband).
2- Presenting information to clients such as: use of chosen method and side effects related to it.
3- Effectivenss and satisfaction of method used.
4- Consistency and follow up such as: availability of different contraceptive methods and follow up visits.
5- Selection of a contraceptive method such as: choice, names and explanation of different methods.
6- Relationship between service providers and client.
Likert scale used for responses to questions about satisfaction with different aspects of contraceptive methods (satisfied, neutral, and unsatisfied).
