Abstract

a. Seed heath testing of 13 samples of seven different wheat cultivars, 10 samples of two different maize cultivars and 26 samples of five different rice cultivars showed the presence of Alternaria alternata (Fr.) keissler., Drechslera australiensis (Drechs.) subran & Janin. H. oryzae (Drechs.) subran & Jain, Fusariunt nzonilifonne sheld. Fusarium. sentitectum Berk & Rav . Nigrospara o1yzae (Sacc.) Masononly and P. oryzae Cav.

b. Using the washing test to detect H. oryzae and P.

Ol)'zae revealed that washing test gave higest nu1nbers of conidia of C. miyabeouns and P. oryzae than the Blotter test, whereas germination of conidia of the two fungi was less than those take from the
Blotter test.

c. Determination of the effect of natural seed infection on seed gcrn1ination by the Rolled towel method and test tube agar showed that infection with H . oryzae or P. oryzae each alone or together resulted in abnormal seedlings particularly in the
combined infection by H. oryzae and P. oryzae
