AVALUATION OF PHARMACOLOGICAL AND NON PHARMACOLOGICAL PULPOTOMY TECHNIQUES USING DIFFERENT BASE MATERIALS IN PRIMARY TEETH

Abstract

Pulpotomy is the treatment of choice for cariously exposed pulps in vital primaty teeth to maintain the teeth in the oral cavity. A pulpotomy is conventionally defined as the removal of the infected and affected coronal pulp tissues and treatment of the radicular pulp stumps with a medicament. Affected pulp denotes an inflammatory reaction to canes without an overt bacterial infection (Fishman 1996 et al ).

Despite good clinical and radiographic success of formocresol pulpotomy . Histologic lindings have been variable changes from inflammation to necrosis of the remaining pulpal tissue (Rolling et al 1978).

Calcium hydroxide is presently recommended as the preferred medication for vital pulp therapy in the permanent dentition but not recommended for pulpotomy in primary teeth (Troutman et a! 1981 & McDonald 1983).When calcium hydroxide is utilized in pulpotomies of primaty teeth ,the reported success rate is highly variable from 22-75%(Schroder
1973 and Schroder 1978). Leaving a blood clot on the wound surface interfers with pulp healing by producing• inflammation and necrosis .
