PROGNOSTIC VALUE OF SOME DIAGNOSTIC AND PHARMACOLOGICAL PROCEDURES ON ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION

MUHAMMAD GOUDA GOUDA SOLIMAN;

Abstract

Although the death rate from Acute Myocardial Infarction has declined in the last decade, its development is still a fatal event in one-third of cases.

If basic life support is initiated immediately after cardiac arrest (within four minutes), and if defibrillation applied quickly, many patients will be saved to be discharged from the hospital.

Several landmarks in management occurred by the introduction of coronary care units (CCUs) which are a highly equipped fields of cardiovascular medicine. Reperfusion era of coronary care was ushered by thrombolytic therapy, use of antiplatelet drugs and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).

Physicians practice dealing with management of such risk have changed concerning the use of these recent modalities and the approach to new drugs.

Complications of AMI have been lessened by facilities for immediate recognition such as echocardiography, doppler flow imaging and by immediate management whether medical or surgical.
