APPUCATIONS Of flOW CYTOMETRY IN HEMATOLOGICAL MALIGNANCIES

HALLA EZZAT AHMED MOHAMED;

Abstract

FLOw cytometry and sorting is a technique for the rapid measurement

of important biological properties of the cell, and for the physical separation of desired subpopulation based on these measured properties.

The general principle of flow cytometry is to obtain optical and fluorescence measurements on single biological particle in liquid flow stream passing through light usually produced by a laser .

The basic components of flow cytometry include :-

I- Sample collector and transporter

2- flow system,

3- excitation light source,

4- signal detectors and filters,

5- signal processing electrons,

6- computer system, and

7- sorting mechanism.

Flow cytometry can be used in different fields of laboratory investigations include study of the cellular properties which could be performed by identifying the cell surface antigens, the intracellular antigens or both .
