Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of Vectris frame glass fiber in improving the fracture strength of heat-cured acrylic overdenture bases.
Heat-cured acrylic resin samples were first constructed in a copper mould following the compression moulding technique to detect the best technique of incorporating the Vectris frame into the acrylic resin.
Twenty samples were constructed and classified into four groups according to the technique of construction. The first group was a control group that was totally formed of heat cured acrylic resin. In the second group, the Vectris frame was light cured before it was placed into the acrylic resin and then the specimens were heat-cured. In the third group, the specimens were constructed, heat-cured and then the Vectris was light cured while it was inside the acrylic resin. In the fourth group, the specimens were heat cured only without light curing.
All the samples were tested for the transverse strength using the universal-testing machine. The maximum load at fracture was recorded for all samples.
