Mohamad Hamdy Abou-Ria;
Abstract
In this study we evaluated a recently introduced method of treatment of chronic anal fissure {medically using nitroglycerine ointment 0.2% twice daily) against a standand, previously evaluated and universally accepted method of treatment
{surgically by open lateral internal sphincterotomy and fissurectomy).
Fourty patients were included in this study and were divided randomly into two groups.
Group I:
Included 20 patients who were treated surgically by open lateral internal sphincterotomy and fissurectomy
Group II:
Included 20 patients who were treated medically by nitroglycerine ointment 0.2% twice daily in a dose of about O.Sgm for 6-8 weeks
All patients were submitted to full history taking, thorough clinical examination including digital rectal examination, proctscopic examination and routine laboratory investigations.
