Abstract


The aim of this study is to evaluate the results of endoscopic managetnent of ureteral calculi located in the lower third and ureteral strictures by using different appropriate endoscopic instruments. The ureteroscopy also used in the diagnosis of ureteral lesions.

In this study , a review of the literature was mad e as regards development of ureteroscopy, endoscopic anatomy of the ureter, nonnal sites of ureteral strictures and abnormal endoscopic findings in the ureter.

The study was performed on 41 patients who underwent transurethral endoscopic manipulation for ureteric stones, stricture or both. Ureteroscopy was found _ very effective in the diagnosis of ureteric filling defects and unilateral haematuria.

These cases were selected from patients admitted to

Menoufiya University Hospital.


The age of patients ranged between 19 - 65 years with mean age 39.8 years (33 males and 8 females), with a ratio of
4.1 : 1. All patients were subjected to preoperative clinical

examinations and the routine laboratory and radiological examinations.
