Abstract
lntravitreal injection involve introduction into the vitreous cavity a substance that is used in vitreous and I or , retinal s urgery .
lntravitreal injections are divided into, liquid s,gases, a ntimicrobial (a ntibi o tics,antiviral and antifungal ) ,cy to toxic, fibrinolytic and antinflammatory .
The intravitrea l liquid injections are physiologic saline , lactated Ringer' s so lu tion , ba l a nced salt s olutio n ,s ilic o ne oil,pert1uorocarbon liquids and Healon .
Physiologic . sa line solution , l acta ted Ringer's solutio n a nd balanced salt soluti on used as lava ge of the vitreous,to restore the volume of the gl obe and d urin g /gas exchange or tluid /sil icone exchange during vitreoretina l surgery .These t hree t ypes of liquids not used as a tamponade of the retina .
Silicone oil the most commo n t ype used for tamponading the retina a nd used commo nl y in pro!i ferati ve vi treoretinopathy .The
v iscosity of silicone ranging fro m I 000 to 1 2.500 centi stokes ,t hese give the silicone weight to t1a tten the retina tear a nd supporting it until to close .The si licone can stay in the eye to 6 months .Some s urgeons removed silicone af ter 3 to 6 months ,some removed it after si x to
.eight weeks ,and some s urgeons advice that silicone must be removed as soon as the proliferative process a ppea rs even if it appea r a fter 2
weeks.
