EPIDEMIOLOGYOF WORK ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IN INDUSTRY IN SHOUBRA EL-KHAIMA DIRECTORATE

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the magnitude of the accident problem in industry in Egypt especially in Shoubra El-Kheima Directorate and to identify the higher rate of accidents in industries, studying the risk factors, studying the programs of prevention for accident, studying the means of treatment of the accidents when occurred either in the factory or in the hospital, and studying the cost of the injury and the treatment.

In this study 3078 workers from 176 different factories located in Shoubra El-Kheima Directorate, who were injured in their work and attended the outpatient clinical of injury at El-Nile Hospital for Health Insurance, and 3291 workers from the same factories who were not injured were taken as control group. Both groups were asked to fill an interview , questionnaire which contained 58 questions divided into 8 different sections. Asking about personal data, work and home problems, career history and exposure, preventing procedures, accident data, data about the injury in details, data of first aid and treatment, and at last the result of the injury and the cost of treatment.
