Dietary Profile For Hepatic Diseases Patients In Some Egyptian Hospitals

Abstract


Therapeutic hospital dietetics are an important tool in the management of diseases along with the medical and surgical treatment. Several epidemiological and clinical investigation demonstrated the importance of nutrition in the treatment and prevention of diseases.

It is important to provide comperhensive nutritional care for hospitalized patients to improve their recovery from injury or illness and to prevent the incidence of malnutrition among them. As a therapeutic measure, hospital food service contributes directly through scientifically prepared nutritious diets aimd at specific health conditions.

The present study was performed to investigate the quality of food service in some Cairo hospitals to assess the adequacy and accuracy of the diet offered to hospitalized patients suffering from liver and to determine factors affecting patient's attitude towards hospital diet.

The study was carried out using 120 inpatients with liver diseases in 16 hospitals in Cairo. Group of four or three hospitals were chosen to represent one of the different health care oranization as follows:

• Government hospitals; include five hospitals with 35 patients. They are : Al-Husein University, Shubra, Ahmad Maher, Ain Shams University and Kasr El Ainy.

• Special hospitals; include four hospitals with 30 patients the chosen hospitals were : Ain Shams Specializ, Italiano, Al-Amal Specializ and Dar El Shefa.
