A Medico Legal Study of Motor Car Accidents
HUSSEIN ALI SHAHROOR;
Abstract
This study was carried out on 100 car accidents that yielded 165 victims during the period of 6 months from the 1st of January to the end of June
2001. These victims were referred to 4 ofBeirufs major hospitals, as they are the main hospitals to receive emergency cases. The AUH received the highest percentage of victims (36.96%) and AI Rassoul hospital received the least (18.78%). St Joseph hospital received the highest (47.05%) of victims who were under the influence of alcohol, followed by AUH (32.78%) and this could be explained on the bases that these 2 hospitals are closer to the places of entertainment where alcohol consumption is liberal of any regulations; hence they are closer to the scene of most accidents. AI Rassoul hospital being located in a very conservative region received the least (6.45%) of positive alcohol victims.
