Kinetic spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric determination of certain cephalosporins in pure form and pharmaceutical formulations

Tamer Zekry Attia Shehata;

Abstract

n this thesis simple, reliable and sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of eight cephalosporins namely cefotaxime, cephapirin, cephradine, cephalexin, ceftazidime, cefazoline, ceftriaxone and cefuroxime. In addition spectrofluorimetric method was also developed for determination of seven cephalosporins namely cefotaxime, cephapirin, cephradine, cephalexin, cefazoline, ceftriaxone and cefuroxime.

The thesis falls into five main parts

The first part
Includes general introduction about the medicinal importance of cephalosporins, information about chemical structure, mechanism of action and therapeutic
'
indication. Also this part comprises a literature review of the reported analytical

methods for determination of the studied drugs. These methods were classified into titrimetric, spectrophotometric, spectrofluorimetric, chromatographic, electrophoretic and electrochemical method. In this part also the scope of the work was explained.

The second part Includes kinetic study of the reaction of cefotaxime, cephapirin, cephradine, cephalexin, ceftazidime, cefazoline, ceftriaxone and cefuroxime with alkaline potassium permanganate followed spectrophotometric measurement. This part comprises two sections.
The experimental section includes the laboratory experimental information about all the instruments, drugs, reagents, solutions, pharmaceutical formulations and procedure used in this method.
