POSTOPERATIVE ANALGESIC EFFECT OF INTRATHECAL MIDAZOLAM AND ITS INFLUENCE ON SPINAL ANAESTHESIA

Abstract


This clincal trial study was conducted in Assiut University Hospital, to evaluate the postoperative analgesic efficacy and the safety of intrathecal midazolam in the patients undergowing lower limbs or thopedic procedures. Seventy five patients ASA I or II were randomlly allocated to five groups:

Group I (control group): 15 patients received 2.5 of0.5% bupivacaine + 2 ml saline.

Group II: 15 patients received 2.5 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine + 0.5 mg midazolam.


Group III: 15 patients received 2.5 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine + 1 mg midazolam.

Group IV: 15 patients received 2.5 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine + 1.5 mg midazolam.

Group V: 15 patients received 2.5 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine + 2 mg midazolam.

The following data were measured and recorded:


1- Haemodynamic data: Heart rate, blood pressure before drug administration then intraoperatively and postoperatively up to 12 hours.

2- Respiratory rate (RR): Basal reading was taken before drug administration then intraoperatively and postoperatively up to 12 hours.
