Abstract


Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is a common gynaeco­ logical endocrine disorder. Gross sclerocystJ change in the human ovary were clearly described by cherehu in 1845, but more interest was aroused in 1935, when this anatomical ab­ normality was related by stein and Ieventhal to a clinical syn­ drome consisting of menstrual irregularity featuring amenor­ rhoea or oligomenorrhoea, hirsutism and obesittogether with.
demonstration of enlarged polycystic ovaries.

Sixty patients with PCOD were selected fov this work, but

patients escaped from our study and were hot included in


the statistical study.


Forty one patients were suffering from primary inferti I
and 9 patients were suffering from secondary ilnfertility.
