Utilization of some natural and agro-residues in the removal of organic pollutants from their aqueous solutions

Shereen Shoieb Yousif Nasr;

Abstract

The aim of the current research is to study the feasibility and the efficiency of low cost agro-residual waste materials in the removal of organic waste such as dyes (Crystal violet and Amaranth dye) from their aqueous solutions. The used biosorption materials are; Rice husk, Guava Leaves, Corn Cob, Bean Shell, nano materials MgO and MgO-M).
This thesis consists of three main chapters as follows:
The first chapter is an introduction about the water pollution; the adsorption process types and affecting factors; the several treatment processes including preliminary, primary, secondary, and tertiary treatment; and finally a literature survey about the previous studies on the adsorption of dyes by different materials biosorption and nanosynthetic materials.
The second chapter is the experimental one that explains the chemical solutions preparation; the batch experiment and the studied factors affecting on it; different isotherms and kinetic models; and the thermodynamic part and its equations.
The third and most important chapter represents the adsorbents' characterizations and the results of the study:
1. G.L and R.H have successfully purified the prepared solutions from crystal dye with removal efficiencies equal; 98.8% and 99.5% respectively.
