GEOMETRY FROM 2D ( Wireframe )
Nevine Momtaz Hassan Lasheene;
Abstract
Two major activities in physically realizing a product are design and manufacturing. The geometry of the product is one of the primary inputs to the design and manufacturing processes.
The geometric infonnation should be directly transferred from CAD database to the computer- aided manufacturing CAM database to enable the manufacturing of the part. This would significantly reduce product development and manufacturing lead time. However, it will not be possible if the manufacturer cmmot read the CAD file. The solution is to have what is known a neutral data exchange fonnat for tl1e purposes of data sharing. However, a neutral file is still the best solution to establish communication between dissimilar CAD/CAM systems. Among many standards available today, the IGES, PDES and DXF standards are the most widely used.
