The Personality Profile in Egyptian Patients with Eating Disorders

Mennat-Allah Abdel Nasser Omar;

Abstract

Eating disorders affect millions of people at any particular time, most often women between the ages of 12 and 35. Three main forms of eating disorders have been identified: anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. People with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are frequently perfectionists with low self-esteem and therefore, extremely critical of themselves and their bodies. The study hypothesizes that there is possibly a high rate of concomitant personality disorders in patients with eating disorders, which is expected to be significantly correlated with the different eating disorders types. Fifty patients were recruited from the clinics fulfilling the following criteria and taken by convenient random sampling. The Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI)-2 (Garner, 1991).
