Pattern of Thrombosis in Egyptian Behçet Patients

Rahma Ahmed Elziaty;

Abstract

 Behçet's disease is multisystemic vusculitis of unknown etiology and unique geographic distribution (Simon et al.,2015). The disease course characterized by exacerbation and remissions. Recurrent skin mucosa lesions and sight threatening panuveitis are the hallmark of the disease. Males are more affected than females(Meda et al.,2014).
 The prevalence of vascular involvement in Behçet's disease varies from 6 to 40% but deep venous thrombosis are the most frequent vascular manifestation( Sung et al.,2015).
 Pathogenesis of thrombosis in Behçet's disease is still not well established.However, multiple factors leading to the disease may include hypercoagulability and hypofibrinolysis, it seems that vascular endothelial lesion is the major factor(Simon et al.,2015).
 This study was conducted on sixty adult patients with Behçet's disease to assess pattern of thrombosis in Egyptian Behçet patient.
 The study revealed male predominance, they were 50 males out of 60 patients involved in the study.
 The most common vascular manifestations among the study group was lower extremity venous thrombosis and there was significant correlation between development of DVT and positive pethargy test and ENLL .
 The second most common vascular manifestations was CNS thrombosis which was mainly arterial in nature in the form of cerebrovascular stroke.
 Other vascular manifestations among the study group were pulmonary embolism, myocardial infarction, buddchiari, retinal vein occlusion and superior vena cava thrombosis.
 There was significant correlation between development of different vascular manifestations with the age of the study group, the duration of the disease and the
