Abstract

Parkinson's disease is a syndrome of disordered motor performance attributed to abnormal dopaminergic system in basal ganglia. Abnormalities of ocular movements are common in patients with PD.

The present study is designed to lind out the abnormalities of ocular movements in parkinsonian patients, and to define the exact role of BG in the control of ocular movements.

Thirty untreated parkinsonian patients were included; seventeen patients were presented mainly by bradykinesia while the remaining thirteen were presented mainly by tremor. Sixteen age and sex matched controls were included in the study.
All patients were subjected to thorough clinical examination, assessment by both UP DRS and modified H& Y scale, laboratory work up and neuroradiological assessment to exclude other causes of parkinsonism (other than PD). ENG examination for both patients and controls were done.

Results of ENG in parkinsonian patients wencompared with that of the controls, and correlated with the predominant manifestation of the patient.
