Abstract


Breast cancer is a major threat to the health of women. Increasing age and a family history of breast cancer are considered major risk factors with unknown primary prevention, early detection measures remain the main hope of decreasing mortality. The aim of the study was to assess knowledge, attitude and practice of breast cancer clients and their first relatives in Tania city. A total sample of 200 clients and their first relatives enrolled in this study. Data were collected through. (1) an interviewing questionnaire for assessing the socio­ demographic characteristic, health history, knowledge and attitude. (2) an observational check-list for assessing breast self-examination. The findings revealed, deficit knowledge and negative attitude regarding breast cancer and incorrect self­ breast examination for both clients and their first female relatives. The study recommended the need for developing services for women at risk for breast cancer including horne care for providing relevant information surrounding disease management, self-care activities and follow-up schedule.
