Abstract

Preeclampsia is the most common tnedical disorder • complicating pl'egnancy and one of the most common cause of maternal and fetal mortality.

This study made to assess• the role of calcitonin gene related peptide in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia.

The study included 25 patients with severe preeclampsia in the last trimester and 25 nonnal full term pregnant women, also 25 normal apparently healthy non-pregnant women in the child bearing period.

Plasma calcitonin gene related peptide was assayed by radioimmunoassay, and the result was statistically measured and showed the following data:

• Plasma level of calcitonin gene-related peptide is not significantly different between preeclamptic patient and normal pregnant women, also there is no significant difference between its level in pregnant and apparently healthy non-pregnant females.

• Also the level of calcitonin gene related peptide has no significant difference between preeclamptic group as regard the severity of the disease and finally its level has no role regarding the outcome of pregnancy.

So, this study suggested that calcitonin gene related peptide has no role in preeclampsia.
