EFFECT OF SOME AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF WHEAT

TAYEB FARAG HUSSIEN ADAM;

Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at the Experimental Station Farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Saba Basha, Alexandria University during 1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons to study the effect of nitrogen fertilization levels and seeding rates in the first experiment as well as the effect of weed control methods and planting methods in the second experiment on the agronomic characters, yield and yield components of wheat crop (Triticum aestivum, L.). The experimental design in the two experiments was a split plot with four replications.

A. First experiment:

Nitrogen levels were (control) without nitrogen added, 35 kg N/faddan

(83 kg/ha), 70 kg N/faddan (166.6 kg/haas a recommended rate) and

105 kg N/faddan (250 kg/ha). Nitrogen fertilizer was applied in the form of urea (46% N) in two split applications, one half before the first irrigation and the second half before the second irrigation.

Seeding rates were 30 kg/faddan (71.4 kglha), 50 kg/faddan

(119.0 kg/haas a recommended rate) and 70 kg/faddan (166.6 kglha.

B. Second experiment:

a) Weed control methods were:

a. Unweeded control.

b. Hand weeding, after 25 days from Afier planting.
