STUDY OF THROMBOMODULIN LEVEL IN RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS PATIENTS

Hala Ali Mahmoud EL Ewagy;

Abstract

Thrombomodulin ( TM ) ts an endothelial cell membrane glycoprotein, released into the blood as soluble antigen following inflammation or injury to the endothelium. Its level in plasma appears to be useful as a new disease activity parameter and is under investigation as a marker of activity of rheumatoid arthritis.

This work was aiming at determining the level of plasma thrombomodulin among rheumatoid arthritis patients.

The work was conducted on 30 patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and I 0 healthy controls of matched age and sex.

They were subjected to clinical examination especially musculo - skeletal and joint examination, laboratory investigations for complete blood picture, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein, rose waaler test, latex test for Rheumatoid Factor and estimation of plasma thrombomodulin by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Rheumatoid arthritis cases in the active state had higher levels of thrombomodulin than in the inactive state and control groups.

There was a positive correlation between ESR and articular index with the level ofthrombomodulin in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
