OSAMA SAEED HASSAN;

Abstract

Despite improvement in the outcome of patients with acute myocardial infarction in recent years, the occurrence of and outlook for cardiogenic shock have not changed much.

Because cardiogenic shock remams the maJor cause of death among patients with all types of acute coronary syndromes, there is a growing interest in the identification of patients at risk for developing cardiogenic shock to prevent its development and improvement of outcome when it occurs.
The aim of this work was to study the clinical predictors of occurrence of cardiogenic shock among patients with ST segment elevation acute myocardial infarction admitted in Critical Care Department of Alexandria Main University Hospital.

The study included one hundred patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction admitted to the Critical Medicine Department of the Main University Hospital of Alexandria. Twenty nine patients of them developed cardiogenic shock.
