Electrical Properties of Some Waste Polyethylene Terephthalate Composites

Abeer Said Ali Reffaee;

Abstract

In spite of the significant importance of polymers, waste polymers are a major environmental problem in many countries around the world due to the increase in generation. Waste plastics are becoming a major stream in solid waste after food waste and paper waste, plastic waste is the major constitute of municipal and industrial waste in cities.

The work in this thesis includes composites based on waste bottles made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in order to reduce the impact on the environment and on the other hand to get an end product characterized by moderate electrical conductivity lies in the antistatic range by the addition of conducting filler.

Chapter I comprises the introduction and aim of work. A brief survey on the dielectric properties as well as the thermal properties of filled rubber is included. Some theories dealing with the relation between the dielectric behavior of matter and the molecular relaxations are given in chapter II. Materials used and brief description of the apparatuses used is given in chapter III. Results and discussion are given in chapters IV to VII. Chapter IV deals with the characterizations and the dielectric parameters (permittivity ε' and dielectric loss ε'') of waste PET and its composites with different concentrations of HAF black (2.5, 5, 10, 12.5,15,20,25 Phr). The permittivity ε' and dielectric loss ε'' are measured over a frequency range 0.1 Hz up to 5 MHz and temperature range from 30 oC to 100 oC.
