Abstract

Summary
B
reech presentation is defined as a fetus in a longitudinal lie with the buttocks or feet closest to the cervix. This occurs in 3-4% of all deliveries. The percentage of breech deliveries decreases with advancing gestational age from 22% of births prior to 28 weeks' gestation to 7% of births at 32 weeks' gestation to 1-3% of births at term.
The aim of this studywas to determine the practice andshort term maternal and neonatal outcomes of term breech. we based on available registered data that were in the file records of 207 women with term Breech Presented fetuses (Gestational Age 37→41weeks) at the time of delivery who were admitted to the Labor ward at casualties of Ain Shams University Maternity Hospital during last 3 years in the period between (January 2011- December 2013).
In registered data there were nearly no differences in maternal and neonatal short term outcomes of term breech according to the mode of delivery by cesarean section versus vaginal delivery.
We are worried that adoption of a policy of breech delivery by Caesarean section will ultimately lead to the disappearance of the specialized clinical skills required to perform vaginal breech delivery, meaning that women with breech fetuses who do deliver vaginally may face greater risk. This concurs with the ACOG recommendations that in light of recent studies that further clarify the long-term risks of vaginal breech delivery. In our present study we urge the obstetrician not to neglect the assisted vaginal breech deliveries and try to gain the necessary training to safe assisted vaginal breech delivery, in our study we solidify on the importance of assisted vaginal deliveries in spite of the fact that cesarean deliveries are more appealing to physicians, nevertheless we must keep in mind the long run sequels of increased cesarean delivery rates and decreased obstetric skills as regard an important obstetric skill (the assisted vaginal breech delivery).
