Basma Samy Mahmoud Ibrahim;

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of
a task-based language teaching(TBLT) program on developing
the speaking skill of fifth year primary pupils. The participants in
the study were 24 fifth grade primary pupils. A task-based
language teaching program was developed by the researcher for
the experimental group. A pre-test of speaking skills and a posttest
were administrated to the participants of the study to measure
the effectiveness of the instructional program on developing
speaking skills. The findings of the study revealed that the TBLT
program enhanced significantly the speaking skills of the pupils
of the experimental group. Based on the results of the current
study, the researcher introduced some recommendations and
suggestions for further research to help syllabus designers in
developing teaching speaking skills and incorporating TBLT
principles and procedures in the pupils' books and teachers'
guides.
