Teachers and Student's Opinions Regarding the Quality of Learning Opportunities in Nursing School

Abstract
Teaching is complex and demanding work that requires highly specialized skills and knowledge to impact significantly on student learning. Improving the learning outcomes of all students regardless of their socioeconomic background or geographic location is the Victorian Government‘s key objective for education (Department of Education & Training 2013).
This study aim was to assess nursing teachers and student‘s opinions regarding the quality of learning opportunities in nursing school.
The study brief description for the work does through the study was conducted in Secondary Technical police Nursing Schools at Cairo and Alexandria governorates. They are two nursing schools in Cairo and two nursing schools in Alexandria.
The school provide nursing program in five academic years with a main objective of preparing technical nursing staff with high level of scientific knowledge and skills.
Two tools were used to collect data. First tool was prepared to assess nursing teachers and student‘s opinions regarding the quality of learning opportunities in nursing school (Brent 2001, Osinski 2003, Aiken 2004 and Smith 2005).For teachers: age, gender, marital status, qualifications (nursing and educational), years of experience in nursing and teaching, residence, etc…. teachers and student‘s opinions regarding the quality of learning opportunities in nursing school. It was encompass their opinions about the structure, process, and outcome element the learning environment. The response to each item is on 3-point likert scale: yes, uncertain and no. This part was developed by the researcher based on review of related literature.
A pilot study was conducted on 10% which was (5) teachers and 10% which (32) students from both schools. The aim of the pilot study was to determine the applicability of the study tools, and to test the clarity of the language. Data obtained from the pilot study were analyzed and necessary modifications were done on the questionnaire. After the final modification of the questionnaire, the final version was prepared for distribution to the respondents.
The main study findings revealed the following:
The student had higher agreements opinions upon learning opportunities total score upon learning opportunities score, compared to the teachers opinions.
There was statistically significant difference (p< 0.05) between nursing student's opinion with teacher'sopinion regarding school policy and strategy.
There was statistically significant difference (p< 0.05) between nursing student's opinion with teacher's opinion in relation to school process.
There was statistically significant difference (p< 0.05) between nursing student's opinion with teacher's opinion regarding school resources.
