ABSTRACT
Myocardial infarction is a life threatening disease that influences the physical, psychological and social dimensions of the individual. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of educational guidelines on therapeutic regimen compliance and self - efficacy among patients with myocardial infarction. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used. Sample: A purposive sample of (90) adult male and female patients with MI and have been selected to the educational guidelines. Setting: Data were collected from outpatients` clinics of Cardiology at Ain Shams University Hospitals. Tools: Four tools were used for data collection (I) A structured interview questionnaire sheet, which included (a) socio demographic characteristics, (b) Patients` knowledge assessment sheet, (2) An observational checklist, (3) Patients' compliance assessment sheet and (4) General Self-Efficacy Scale. Results: This study revealed a statistically significant improvement post educational guidelines regarding studied patient's knowledge, practice, self - efficacy and compliance toward therapeutic regimen of MI. Conclusion:It can be concluded that, the educational guidelines had a positive effect on improving therapeutic regimen compliance among studied patients with myocardial infarction through the enhancement of their knowledge and practices added to self – efficacy level. Recommendation:The study recommended that, patients` education should be held in a continuous manner.
