Role of Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Diagnosis and Staging of Cancer Cervix

Mona Gamal Eldeen Elsayem;

Abstract

MRI has an important role in assessing local extent and distant spread of cancer due to its excellent soft tissue and high contrast resolution which enables differentiation between cancerous and normal tissues. MRI has wide field of view by the multicrosssections (axial, cronal, sagittal) and lack of ionizing radiation in comparison to CT SCAN. MRI is far more reliable than physical examination in assessing tumor size and it is highly accurate in diagnosis of bladder and rectal invasion.
