VIRTUAL ' COLONOSCOPY

Abstract
Colorectal cancer is the second common cause of cancer death worldwide. Its screening is the search for cancer and precancerous polyps (adenomatous) in asymptomatic persons. There are several options for screemng:
*Annual fecal occult blood testing (FOBT).
*Flexible sigmoidoscopy.
*Annual FOBT plus .flexible sigmoidoscopy.
*Double-contrast barium enema every.
*Colonoscopy and it is the best strategy.
*CT and MR colonography (virtual colonoscopy), which is still under evaluation to be the next colon screening examination?
Conventional colonoscopy has several complications:
l. Related to preparation, fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
2. Related to medication e.g. respiratory depression due to diazepam.
3. Bacteraemia.
4. Haemorrhage.
5. Perforation.
6. Diastatic serosal tears and burn.
7. Post-colonoscopy distention.
8. Vasovagal reflex.
9. Splenic avulsion.
!0. Cardiac and ECG abnormalities. ll. Volvulus.
12. Colonicobstruction.
13. Adynamic ileus.
14. Impaction of instrument in hernia.
