PERINATAL ASPHYXIA-CLINICO LABORATORY STUDY, EVALUATION AND CEREBRO ABDOMINAL COLOUR DOPPLER CORRELATION I

SAMHA YOUSSEF GHANEM;

Abstract

Blood flow of middle cerebral and superior mesenteric arteries was measured in 33 asphyxiated and 12 normal (control) newborn infants, using' Doppler ultra sonography within the first week of life. Evaluation of differences between the two groups as correlated with the results of clinical and laboratory investigations have shown significant correlations between blood velocity profiles and Apgar score, severity of perinatal asphyxia and results of blood gas analysis. The study has confirmed the value of Doppler US as an easy and useful method for the early assessment and hence, proper management of perinatal asphyxia.
