BIOLOGICAL AND ECOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON THE EFFECT OF SOME POLLUTANTS ON SOIL EARTHWORMS

Sonia Mahmoud Mongry;

Abstract

The present study was conducted to:
- Evaluation of the importance of emthworm Aporrectodea ca/iginosa in improving the soil characteristics.
- Dete1mination of the toxicity of some pesticides cunently used in Egypt. The pesticides used were Reldan and Tedifole as (Acaricides), Cyonex and Meothrin as (insecticides), Suffix and Pasta as (herbicides).
- Determination of the effect of long exposure of the wo1ms to
l/10 of the LCso of each pesticide on its role in changing soil characteristics, and evaluation of the effect of these pesticides on the biological activities of the worms.
- Detennination of the toxicity of two industrial wastes from
Tanta Oil and Soup Company (Pollutant I) and from Tanta
Spinning and weaving company (Pollutant II).
- Dete1mination of the effect of long exposure of each industrial wastes on the role of ea1thworms in changing soil characteristics and evaluation the effect of these indusb•ial wastes on the worms biological activities
- Determination of the seasonal distribution density of adult,
immature wonns as well as cocoons of emthwonn Aporrectodea caliginosa in fields inigated with the polluted water from canals in which the previous indusb•ial wastes have been disposed in comparable to another unpolluted field belong to Tanta Secondary Agricultural SchooL
