Immuno Histochemical Study of Ovaian •Neoplasia

Abstract
Summary
The ovary is considered a site of different neoplasms . Various prognostic factors have been established to estimate a patients individual prognosis . These factors include age , stage,
Grade , immunohistochemical techniques using various
antibodies and flow cytometry .
This work aimed at estimating the value of
immunohistochemical staining using PCNA/C-erb 2 antibodies
as prognostic factors in ovarian neoplasia .
The present study included 80 cases of ovarian neoplasia . 60
cases were retrospectively collected from the pathology departement , Faculty of Medicine , Tanta University and 20 cases were prospective .
They were divided as follow , 30 cases of serous tumors (10
benign , 10 borderline , 10 malignant ) 25 cases of mucinous tumors ( 10 benign , 10 borderline and 5 well differentiated carciomas).
Five cases oendometrioid carcinoma , five cases of ovarian
fibroma , ten cases of granulosa cell tumor (2 JGCT & 8 AGCT)
and five cases of undifferentiated carcinomas .
All formaline fixed paraffin sections were stained with H & E staining for typing and grading . Immunohistochemial procedure using PCNA and C-erb 2 antibodies by avidine biotine method .
In epithelial serous and mucinous tumors the mean age for benign group was 32.1 , 28 for the BL group was 40.6 , 41.6 and for the malignant groups was 58.7, 44 respectively.
A statistical significat difference in age was detected between BL and Malignant epithelial tumors . Also all Malignant epithelial tumors were post menopausal . Ascitis and peritoneal implants were detected only in malignant epithelial tumors .
According to the FIGO staging system for avarian carcinoma
25 cases were stage Ia (10 SBLT, 4 SMTS, 10 MBLS, 1
MMTS) , 3 cases were stage Ic (all of them were malignant mucinous tumors ) , 5 cases were stage lie (3 SMTS, 2 MMTS, and 2 cases were stage III (both were malignant mucinous).
