Some Problems of Unsteady Motion of an Electrically Conducting Viscoelastic Fluid

Hoda Saleh Mohamad Ali;

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to investigate some problems of unsteady motion of electrically conducting viscoelastic fluids. The thesis consists of four chapters.

In chapter 1, we presented an introduction about the following items which are closely related to the subject of this thesis
(I )Definition of fluid. (2) Fluid properties.
(3)Non-Newtonian fluids.
(4)Basic consideration and governing equations. (5)Magnetohydrodynamecs. '••
(6)Fiow through porous media. (7)Micropolar fluids.
(8)Some previous studied.

In chapter II, we obtained an exact solution for an unsteady flow of an electrically conducting visco-elastic incompressible fluid through a porous medium on an infinite flat plate. The fluid under consideration is obeying the rheological equations of state due to Walters's stress-strain relation. The plate is accelerated in the presence of uniform magnetic field. The analysis includes the case of solid plate as well as a porous one. The solution ofthe equations of motion is obtained by the use of Laplace transform. The effects of the elasticity, magnetic field, permeability of the porous medium and the suction of the plate on the velocity distribution as well as skin friction are discussed. The analytical results are numerically confirmed.

When the plate is solid, it is found from the figures that:
(a) The velocity distribution increases with the increase of both elasticity a and
permeability k, while it decreases as the magnetic parameter M increases.
(b)The skin-friction <"decreases with the increase of both the magnetic parameter M and elasticity parameter a, while it increases with the increase of the permeability of the porous medium k

When the plate of porous, it is found from the figures that:
(a)The velocity distribution increases with the increase of both permeability parameter k and the suction of the plate parameter f3 , while it decreases with the
increase of both the magnetic' parameter M and the elasticity parameter a.
