Abstract

This research was designed to evaluate the effect of finishing speed and different treatment protocols on surface roughness and biaxial flexural strength of emax press

A total number of sixty all ceramic Ips emax press lithium disilicate were fabricated The shape of the sample will be a disc with two levels, the outside level will be 15 mm in width and 1 mm in height, the internal level will be in a shape of a circle with 3mm in width and 1 mm in height
The sixty discs were divided randomly according to grinding procedure into
Group (I):
Specimens were ground with high speed handpiece using diamond rotary instruments (n = 30 discs)
Group (II) :
Specimens were ground with a micromotor using diamond rotary instruments (n = 30 discs)
Each group were subdivided into 3 subgroups according to finishing procedures

Subgroup (A):
No finishing (n = 10 discs)

Subgroup (B):
Finishing & polishing with siliconized points (n = 10 discs)

Subgroup (C) :
Finishing & polishing WITH siliconized points and diamond paste (n = 10 discs)

The instruments were oriented perpendicular to the disk surfaces. The direction of applied force produced a horizontal cut on the central disc projection until the metal arms of the holding device and diamond wheel were at the same level and the disc central thickness was verified by caliper to ensure complete removal of central projection area .
the surface of ceramic discs were finished with the optrafine disc finishers the subsequent polishing procedure was performed with the optrafine disc polishers for final finishing and polishing ,the optrafine HP nylon brushes are used together with diamond polishing paste for high gloss polishing

All specimens of different groups were measured for surface roughness and biaxial flexural strength

Numerical data were explored for normality by checking the data distribution, calculating the mean and median values, evaluating histograms and normality curves and using Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests.

Data were presented by mean and standard deviation (SD) values.
