The plant kingdom includes many medicinally useful plants. For a long time, they were considered as an essential source of many drugs for treatment of different diseases.
Despite of the great advances in synthetic drugs, their adverse side effects directed researchers' eyes to the safer herbal products.
Large numbers of plants are constantly screened for their possible pharmacological activities, among which are those belonging to family Platanaceae.
Family Platanaceae is a small family, containing one genus and about eleven species ( 2 .
Flavonoids, sterols, triterpenes, a-tocopherol, long chain primary alcohols, polysaccharides and cyanogenic glycosides are the main active constituents of the plants of family Platanaceae.
Platanus orienta/is L. is known in arabic as Shinar, Sinar or Dulb and
known also as the Oriental Plane Tree (J-s). In the Holy Bible, it was mentioned as the "Chestnut tree" <6 .
