Abstract

Ethyl acrylate emulsion homopolymer crosslinked by NMA is the most used commercial binder for textile pigment printing application. This work aimed to improve the physical and mechanical properties of pigment printing application using ethyl acrylate polymer crosslinked by different crosslinker types such as allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) or allyl methacrylate (AMA) (0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, .8%, and 1 %) respectively of the total monomer concentrations. The best crosslinkers systems would be used in new series of methyl methacrylate/ ethyl acrylate copolymers and methyl methacrylate/ 2- ethyl hexyl acrylate/ ethyl acrylate terpolymers at different concentration ratios of methyl methacrylate (2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10% of total monomer) respectively.
The prepared polymers were characterized using solid content, molecular weight, coagulum, viscosity, drying time, TGA, DSC, UV, IR, MFFT, TEM and zeta potential. The mechanical properties of the prepared polymers would be also examined. It was found that 1% of either allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) or allyl methacrylate (AMA) showed good heat, mechanical fastness and high color yield for pigment printed textile. 10% of methyl methacrylate/ ethyl acrylate copolymers and methyl methacrylate/ 2- ethyl hexyl acrylate/ ethyl acrylate terpolymers showed the best results in heat fastness, mechanical fastness and high color yield for pigment printed textile.
