Abstract
Our study is aretrospective study aimed todetermine the prevelance, possible risk factors and the outcomes of neonatal cholestasis in Ain Shames University nicu over aduration of 3years from January 2013 to December 2015.
The total number of neonates admitted to NICU in this period were1153,43 neonates developed neonatal cholestasis(direct bilirubin≥1mg when TSB≤5mg/dl and direct bilirubin≥205of TSBwhen TSB ≥5mg)
Prevelance of neonatal cholestasis over this period ranged from3.20% to4.17% with highest prevelance in 2014.
Among 43 cases of NC,29cases were preterm,13 cases were LBW,20 cases were RDS,25 cases had sepsis,2cases were down s,2 cases had IEM,20 cases had different congenital anomalies and 2cases had indirect hyperbilirubinemia.
There is positive correlation between potassium level and direct bilirubin
There is positive correlation between prolonged PTT level and direct bilirubin
Among NC cases ,mortality rates over 3years were 41.86% with highest mortality in 2013(50%)
In conclusion, neonatal cholestasis cases had concomitant clinical disorders might have contributed in the deveiopment of cholestasis
As prematurity ,low birth weight, sepsis, congenital anomalies and inborn errors of metabolism.
Mortality outcomes was higher in cases who were preterm ,low birth weight ,twin and whose mother had PROM
Mortality rates were higher in patients with positive CRP ,positive chestXray findings and elevated AST and ALT
