FikryTarik Mansour;

Abstract

The study included 96 Egyptian women who had a preliminary diagnosis of adnexal mass clinically and/or sonographically regardless the patients' complaint, age or parity. The study was conducted at of Ain Shams University Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the period between February, 2015 and February, 2016.
All patients were subjected to the following after taking a written consent from each patient:
1- Complete history taking.
2- General and local pelvic examination.
3- Transvaginal Doppler U/S and Quantitative assessment of serum level of CA-125 and Nidogen-2.
4- Adnexal masses were resected in all patients and were sent for full histopathological examination.
In the current study, the median of nidogen-2 serum levels in patients with benign adnexal masses was (14.9 ng/mL, p value < 0.0001) while among patients with malignant masses it was (33.9 ng/mL, p value < 0.0001).
Patients showed serum levels of nidogen-2 above the cut-off value (28.35 ng/mL) were 46 while 50 cases showed levels below. In comparison with the results of histopathological examination; using serum level assessment of nidogen-2 in diagnosis of ovarian cancer is evaluated, sensitivity 91.6%, specificity 62% and accuracy 68%.
